The fireplace on The Pavilion is complete and we have enjoyed several fires in it over the last week. What a difference it makes in the appearance of The Pavilion (our seasonal outdoor dining area)!
Trenches are being dug all across the property for the infrastructural upgrade. Some aspects of this project are unglamorous but nevertheless are vital – the prime example here is the need to upgrade our utility infrastructure to provide enough electrical power to the Station. The need also presented an opportunity – what better time to upgrade your underground services then when you have to dig ditches anyway for new power lines? And so we are upgrading and expanding virtually everything – electrical, communication, propane, water, irrigation, and sewer. This puts everything in place to get the Station up and running, but also creates the backbone for future expansion and renewal on this property.
This barge arrived in Jan. with the materials for the work.
Every year we host a “Valentines” Fundraiser weekend to help us with financial needs for certain projects. The weekend always includes a wonderful time of friends relaxing, visiting, over-the-top meals, seeing what is happening around the property, and enjoying some inspirational times with a guest speaker – this year we will be serenaded by Carolyn Arends and Spencer Capier during Mark & Carolyn’s sessions. Friday afternoon will hold a silent auction with an exciting selection of paintings, jewelry, spa treatments, a year’s supply of Barnabas-roasted coffee, flower baskets put together by our horticulturalist Larry McPherson, and so on. One of the main highlights is Saturday evening’s multi-course dinner complimented by well-chosen wine pairings and ending with a spirited live-auction of some highly desirable items such as a dinner cruise for 14 in a 90-foot private yacht, winery tours, special dinners hosted by some of the guests who are known for their hospitality, a private cottage for several nights, Applegate for a weekend for 12 people (complete with meals), and so on.
The property is a beehive of activity as we prepare for this event. We have a goal in mind for what we’d like to raise so we’ll let you know how we do.
