John & Martha Zimmerman May 7 - 9, 2012

Pastoral Leadership in a Changing World

Our culture is swirling around us in chaos and confusion. How do we respond to change? How do we stay standing on the solid rock? Together we will explore four vital topics: A Listening Heart, Living With Integrity, On Duty/Off Duty - Boundaries for Ministry, A Life Grounded in Trust.

Dr. John Zimmerman was a Professor of Pastoral Studies at Carey Theological College/Regent College. He currently serves as Mentor for a new indigenous denomination in South Sudan. In the past decade he has served seven churches -large and small- as Interim Pastor. Dr. Martha Zimmerman is the author of six books in the areas of family, celebrations and biography including "Celebrating Biblical Feasts" and "Celebrating the Christian Year". She is a frequent conference and retreat speaker.

Christian Leader and Spouse Retreat

Brian Buhler May 28 - 30, 2012

Strength in Weakness: the perennial pattern of Christ-like leadership

"For to be sure, he was crucified in weakness, yet he lives by God's power. Likewise, we are weak in him, yet by God's power we will live with him to serve you." -2 Corinthians 13:4

Pastoral ministry is hard. The puniness of our five loaves and two fish doesn't ever seem to match the demand. We never seem to have enough of what we think it takes to "do the job!" Apparently, this nagging deficiency is not only descriptive but prescriptive of all fruitful ministry. The challenge is learning how to live more comfortably with wearing our weakness. For this unique challenge, we have Jesus! His pattern and his power.

At the tender age of thirteen, Brian lost his young mother to a brain tumor. In the midst of this tragic grief, he experienced God in what he calls his burning bush experience. Living with loss made room for Jesus. For the past 32 years, the challenges and demands of pastoral ministry have continued to make room for Jesus! Brian is the Sr. Pastor of Pacific Community Church in Cloverdale, British Columbia, having served previously in Calgary, Abbotsford, and North Vancouver. Brian and his wife Myrna have three married children and two grandchildren. He enjoys dark roast coffee, racquet sports, painting bold landscapes, and preaching good news.
